City Of Concord Utilizes Roush Fenway Racing Speed To Achieve Community Wildlife Habitat Certification
CONCORD, N.C. (April 22, 2015) – The city of Concord has become the fastest municipality in North Carolina to achieve Community Wildlife Habitat Certification by the National Wildlife Federation and the North Carolina Wildlife Federation (NCWF), thanks to efforts by the Concord Wildlife Alliance.
Understanding the need for speed at critical moments, Roush Fenway Racing congratulates the Concord Wildlife Alliance on this achievement. The team will contribute $1,000 to the Concord Wildlife Alliance’s funding campaign and challenges all other Concord race teams and businesses to match this contribution.
Ian Prince, Rough Fenway’s Director of Sustainability, understands the importance of the campaign to fund a large habitat improvement project in the city of Concord. “Our employees live here, work here and play here,” said Prince. “Providing a better background for that makes all us stronger on and off the track.”
Habitat preservation, restoration and integration are very important to Roush Fenway and its sustainability platform. Roush Fenway, Concord businesses and Concord residents, came together last year to start the Concord Wildlife Alliance in an effort to achieve Community Wildlife Habitat Certification by the National Wildlife Federation and the North Carolina Wildlife Federation (NCWF). The Concord Wildlife Alliance has been working to get businesses, churches, farms and homes up to a standard that provides key habitat needs for native wildlife: food, water, cover and a place to raise young.
John Robbins, a Concord business owner who was one of the pioneers of this new program to get the City of Concord certified, is the current Chairman of the Board of Directors for the North Carolina Wildlife Federation (NCWF). Robbins is pleased with the community involvement in achieving this certification. Robbins says, “This was a perfect example of what we can do when citizens, government and businesses have a common goal.”
The mission of the Concord Wildlife Alliance is to protect and enhance the natural resources and wildlife habitats of the City of Concord, North Carolina.
