Bayne Earns 18th-Place Finish in Kansas
Kansas City, Kan. (Oct. 18, 2015) – Trevor Bayne, driver of the No. 6 AdvoCare Ford Fusion, recorded an 18th-place finish in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series (NSCS) event at Kansas Speedway on Sunday afternoon.
“Overall this was a good weekend for this AdvoCare team,” said Bayne after the race. “We came out of the truck with good speed in practice and we were able to put together a good afternoon. Now it’s on to Talladega. Hopefully we can get a win for everyone at Roush Fenway who works tirelessly on these cars each week.”
Bayne began the Sunday afternoon matinee from the 19th position after advancing to the second round of knockout qualifying on Friday. From the drop of the green flag, Bayne reported that the AdvoCare Ford was very loose both on entry and exit of the corner. With the handling condition worsening, crew chief Bob Osborne utilized a Lap 63 caution period to bring the Roush Fenway Racing driver to pit road for four tires and a chassis adjustment.
Bayne returned to the track for the Lap 69 restart in the 29th position and wasted little time moving forward, racing his way up to the 20th position before the caution came out once again on Lap 108. On the ensuing restart, Bayne reported that the AdvoCare Ford had shifted over to the tight side through the corner. This tight handling condition ultimately cost Bayne a lap to the race leaders during the long green flag run that followed.
Despite being off of the lead lap, Bayne continued to make progress up the leaderboard. By Lap 171 Bayne had moved up to 19th and by Lap 225 he had the AdvoCare Ford in 16th.
The Knoxville, Tenn. native maintained his top-20 track position throughout the closing stages of the event and was able to come home with an 18th-place finish after battling with Roush Fenway teammate Greg Biffle.
Next up for the NSCS is Talladega Super Speedway on Sunday, Oct. 25.
