Trevor Bayne Enjoying Strong Start to 2016 Season
CONCORD, N.C. (May 6, 2016) – The start of the 2016 season has been a welcome change for Roush Fenway Racing’s Trevor Bayne. Through the first 10 races of the year in his sophomore season in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series (NSCS), the driver of the No. 6 AdvoCare Ford has earned one top-five and two top-10s, while leading 34 laps.
“We’ve run really well the last four weeks and gained a lot of points,” said Bayne. “It’s good to come out of those races in the Chase. Obviously there’s a long ways to go and a lot of racing left to do. There are a lot of good cars behind us and in front of us, so we’ve got our work cut out for us. Things are headed in the right direction. We’re getting some results and still feel like we can do better.”
Last season, through 36 races, Bayne earned two top-10 finishes and finished 29th in the NSCS driver point standings. Heading into Saturday’s race at Kansas Speedway, Bayne currently ranks 16th in the NSCS driver point standings and holds the final spot in the Chase for the NASCAR Sprint Cup.
“We’ve just really come together as a whole group and put our heads down and worked hard,” said Bayne. “It’s paying off, finally. It’s hard to catch up in this sport, because everyone is always getting better, so when you get behind it’s super hard to make any gains. We’ve come further than I expected already this season.”
After the first 10 races of the 2015 season, Bayne was 29th in the NSCS driver point standings, with a best finish of 18th. Bayne has notched several strong runs at the front of the pack this season, the highlight being a top-five finish at his home track of Bristol Motor Speedway. The Knoxville native is confident that his No. 6 AdvoCare team can continue its early success this season as the year continues to unfold.
“Now that we’ve seen all kinds of different race tracks, I really don’t see an area where our Roush Fenway cars are lacking a lot of speed,” said Bayne. “Obviously we can always be better, but I feel like we have top-15 cars no matter what kind of race track we show up at. We can’t get complacent with top-15s, and we aren’t. It’s a huge gain from what we had last season.”
