Roush Fenway Racing looks to rebound in Texas

CONCORD, N.C. (April 3, 2018) – Roush Fenway Racing  has not lived up to preseason expectations this season and struggled to find any rhythm in a tough outing two weeks ago at Martinsville. However, the team remains focused and committed and last week’s off-weekend could not have come at a better time, as the team continues to search and build on solutions.

“We didn’t get it done,” said director of operations Tommy Wheeler. “That’s just the honest answer. The break couldn’t have come at a better time for us to kind of get our feet back underneath us,” added Wheeler. “To take a deep breath and have a real emotional reset as we head into Texas. It’s a long season and we still have a lot of racing left to do. Trust me, everyone here is working around the clock as we continue to look to get moving in the right direction, and we won’t rest until we get there.

“We had some mechanical issues that doomed us from the start (at Martinsville),” said team competition director Kevin Kidd. “Those were not issues that we could get rectified during the race. It’s unfortunate that it defined our day, but it in no way defines this team and this organization or our commitment and resolve to run up front and compete to win races

Easter weekend brought the first break of the MENCS season. During the off weekend, Roush Fenway took time to focus on execution and car speeds to improve performance on track going forward. As the MENCS heads south later this week for 500 miles in Texas, teams are optimistic about the rest of the season.

“We are ready to get to Texas and take the next step towards the rest of the season,” added Wheeler. “We can’t control the things that have already happened and we can’t change them. Our job is to learn from those mistakes and continue to get better each week until we have this program back where we expect it to be.”

Texas could be a good place to get back on track for Roush Fenway. Roush Fenway Cup Fords have a total of nine wins, 38 top-five finishes, 59 top-10’s and three pole awards at Texas Motor Speedway, including a win in the inaugural race there in 1997.
