Another Top-10 For Bubba Wallace At New Hampshire Motor Speedway
LOUDON, N.H (July 18, 2015) – Bubba Wallace earned his seventh top-10 finish of the 2015 season after crossing the finish line eighth in his No. 6 Cross Insurance Ford Mustang in Saturday’s NASCAR XFINITY Series race at New Hampshire Motor Speedway.
“Our Cross Insurance Mustang didn’t really have any short run speed at all, so we had to pull a little strategy there and try to stay out and it didn’t work out for us,” said Wallace. We came out in the top-10, and that’s good. I was trying to muscle those guys and catch the 7, and get us a little bit better, but that’s two good finishes in a row.”
Wallace was the only Roush Fenway Racing car to advance to the third and final round of knockout qualifying, ultimately lining up 11th in his No. 6 Cross Insurance Ford Mustang.
During the opening run of the 200-Lap race, Wallace battled a Mustang that was too free, radioing to crew chief Chad Norris that he needed help on entry. When Wallace visited pit road for the first time of the day under caution on Lap 39, Norris called for four tires, fuel and a track bar adjustment.
When the race returned to green flag action, Wallace was very happy with his Mustang, advancing from his 18th-place restarting position to 12th by the time the next caution flag flew on Lap 57.
By the halfway point of the event, Wallace had worked his way into the top-10. As green flag pit stops began to cycle through, Wallace made his way down pit road from second-place on Lap
124 for four tires, fuel and another track bar adjustment.
When the caution flew with 60 laps remaining, Norris opted to leave Wallace on track, hoping the clean air and track position would help the No. 6 Mustang.
Wallace restarted third on Lap 148, dropping back to 10th without fresh tires. Wallace spent the remainder of the racing battling to gain back the lost positions, ultimately finishing eighth.
With the result, Wallace remains sixth in the NASCAR XFINITY Series point standings, as the series travels to Indianapolis Motor Speedway.
