Stenhouse Looks to Build on Momentum Going Into Pocono
LONG POND, Pa. (May 31, 2019) – After a top-five finish and a new sponsorship announcement, Ricky Stenhouse Jr. is ready to take on Pocono Raceway.
Stenhouse started last Sunday’s race at Charlotte ninth and, after a long 600 miles of racing, crossed the finish line fifth.
“It’s crazy to think that was our first top-five at a mile and a half,” Stenhouse told SIRIUSXM’s Claire B. Lang. “It was so cool to finally get that and have a competitive car, especially on Memorial Day weekend. It was just a good time for all that to come together. It was a solid night and we were definitely pumped after the race.”
On Wednesday afternoon, Roush Fenway Racing announced that NOS Energy will serve as a primary partner for two races with Stenhouse and the No. 17 team. The No. 17 NOS Energy Ford will make its debut on June 9 at Michigan.
“I’ve got a great relationship with NOS Energy drink and everybody there,” Stenhouse said. “They’re able to do so much with me outside of what we do in the Cup series. The paint scheme looks great and I look forward to working with them.”
As Stenhouse gets ready to take on ‘The Tricky Triangle’ this weekend, he says his main goal is to focus on getting the right balance in his No. 17 Fastenal Ford.
“The three corners are totally different,” Stenhouse explained. “The draft is going to be important down the straightaways and really just trying to get the right balance in your car. So that’s something that will be interesting to see what teams come with what package and philosophies they have.”
The driver goes into the 15th race of the season 19th in the points and itching to secure a spot in the playoffs. In his mind, the key to the playoffs are good runs, amazing starting and finishing positions and outstanding pit stops.
“You have a good couple of runs and the shop attitude is completely different,” Stenhouse said. “My pit crew was unbelievable this weekend. And I feel like we can be better in our starting position and finishing position there at Pocono. I feel really confident as to where we are as a race team.”
