Bayne Finishes 28th in Chicago
JOLIET, Ill. (Sept. 20, 2015) – Trevor Bayne, driver of the No. 6 AdvoCare Ford Fusion, recorded a 28th-place finish on Sunday afternoon in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series (NSCS) event at Chicagoland Speedway.
“We had some great speed on the long run with this AdvoCare Ford,” said Bayne after the race. “We just didn’t quite get going on the short run. But I want to thank all my guys for their hard work this weekend. We’ll move on from this and get ready to head to Loudon.”
Bayne began the 267-lap event from the 30th position after rain canceled qualifying on Friday afternoon. From the drop of the green, Bayne reported to crew chief Bob Osborne that the AdvoCare Ford was very loose on the exit of the corners. Despite the loose handling condition, Bayne raced his way up to the 24th position running lap times as quick as the race leaders.
Following the first round of green flag pit stops on Lap 52, the Knoxville, Tenn. native again reported that the AdvoCare Ford was loose on exit and tight in the center of the corner. Although the handling issues persisted, Bayne began to again make up ground over the course of the long green flag run, improving up to 23rd. Even though the Roush Fenway Racing driver continued to move forward, the struggle for track position ultimately led to Bayne falling down a lap to the race leaders.
Despite being off of the lead lap, Bayne never gave up and utilized a Lap 144 restart to move into the 21st position. Bayne maintained his track position throughout the ensuing green flag run, but contact with the outside retaining wall on Lap 170 gave the AdvoCare Ford an irreversibly tight handling condition. Crew chief Osborne then called Bayne to pit road during a round of green flag pit stops on Lap 185 in the hopes of improving the car’s handling.
Returning to the track in the 28th position, Bayne would continue to battle for position throughout the closing stages of the race. In the end, Bayne would bring the AdvoCare Ford home with a 28th-place finish.
Next up for the NSCS is New Hampshire Motor Speedway on Sunday, Sept. 27.
