Bayne Finishes 30th in Kansas
KANSAS CITY, Kan. (Oct. 21, 2018) – An incident on pit road cost Trevor Bayne a chance at a solid points day in Kansas, as damage repairs during a green flag run put him multiple laps behind the leaders, and he was ultimately saddled with a 30th-place finish.
“It’s a disappointing way to end the weekend,” Bayne said. “We struggled to find the balance of our car, and we never really had a chance to get it right after picking up that damage.”
After qualifying 19th, Bayne managed the inconsistent handling of his AdvoCare Rehydrate Ford Fusion but surrendered a lap to the leaders before the end of stage one. Though he was able to get the lap back by taking the wavearound, he lost track position as the team had to take a long pit stop to replace a damaged mirror on the car.
Bayne restarted stage two in the 26th position, working his way up to 21st before coming to pit road during a cycle of green flag stops. As Bayne was entering his pit box and the No. 21 Ford was leaving his, contact was made damaging both cars. The crew was unable to immediately repair the damage to the AdvoCare Ford, and Bayne would need to stop two more times under green to get the car back to a driveable condition. By that point, Bayne was scored six laps down in 35th.
The team battled to remain on the track and would eventually begin to move forward, ultimately settling for a 30th-place finish.
