Biffle Leaves Pocono 12th In The No. 16 Ortho Ford Fusion
LONG POND, Pa. (June 7, 2015) – Pocono Raceway is known as the “Tricky Triangle” but Greg Biffle had a fast No. 16 Ortho Ford and was up for the challenge. Biffle narrowly missed advancing in qualifying to the second round and was left starting 27th. The No. 16 Ortho Ford only needed minor air pressure and wedge adjustments over 160-laps and in the end Biffle was able to save enough fuel to earn a 12th-place finish, advancing to 18th in the point standings.
The first round of three in qualifying is 20 minutes and the top 24 move on to round two. Biffle was sitting 27th as the clock wound down and in his last effort to advance he appeared to have made it to his timed lap with one second to spare, but NASCAR timing and scoring had him narrowly missing the close of session one. Biffle was then left with a 27th-place starting position.
The race opened up with a long green flag run, leading to green flag stops. Biffle steadily advanced through the field with a neutral handling Ortho Ford. Only a slight air pressure adjustment, along with four tires and fuel were all that was needed on the first pit stop.
Mid-race in an effort to gain track position Biffle pitted for two-tires, but the attempt led to a lack of right front turn. The next stop the team gave Biffle four tires and a wedge adjustment which got the Ortho Ford headed back in the right direction. Biffle made his final stop for just tires and fuel on lap 122 and from there was in fuel conservation mode until the end.
Multiples cautions helped Biffle make up the few laps he would have been short on fuel, so the team was able to capitalize on track position over teams who had pitted for fuel, leading to a 12th-place finish.
