Biffle, No. 16 Team Look for Strong Season in 2016
CONCORD, N.C. (Feb. 2, 2016) – Roush Fenway Racing driver Greg Biffle heads into the 2016 season on a continued quest to become the first driver to claim a championship in all three of NASCAR major series. There are a few new faces on the No. 16 team heading into the season, including Brian Pattie, who takes over as crew chief for Biffle. Pattie and Biffle have had success in the past and look to continue that winning partnership into this season.
“I’m very excited to be back together with Brian Pattie after all these years,” said Biffle. “He’s done some spectacular things while working with Clint (Bowyer) and I’m looking forward to a fresh start in 2016 with our new cars. We’ve got a lot of talented people at Roush Fenway Racing and have added to that talent pool. There are some exciting times ahead for us.”
Biffle and Pattie are no strangers to winning together. Pattie built cars at NEMCO Motorsports when Biffle found victory lane twice in 2003 at Charlotte and Atlanta. Both have had continued success over the years and look to combine their efforts into making a run for the 2016 Sprint Cup Championship.
Biffle has been a mainstay and a perennial championship contender in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series, running to 19 victories and earning seven ‘Chase’ playoff berths during his celebrated career; including a runner up finish in 2005.
Pattie also came up just one position short of claiming the Sprint Cup Championship with Clint Bowyer in 2012, and helped to guide teams into the Chase field three out of his four years at MWR.
“I’m really excited and ready for this season to get underway,” said Pattie. “I have some experience working with Greg; he won a few races for us back at NEMCO when I was building cars. Greg is a proven winner and I’m looking forward to be competing for a championship in 2016.”
The season kicks off for Biffle and Pattie with the Sprint Unlimited at Daytona International Speedway. Daytona is a special track for Biffle as it was the site of his first NASCAR Sprint Cup pole position in the 2004 Daytona 500 and first Sprint Cup Series win in July of 2003. In addition, Biffle was part of an all Roush Fenway starting front row in 2012, starting on the outside of the front row in the 2012 Daytona 500.
Biffle won the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series (NCWTS) and NASCAR XFINITY Series (NXS) championships in 2000 and 2002, and needs only a coveted NASCAR Sprint Cup Series (NSCS) title to post the first triple-crown in the long history of the sport. He came up just one spot short of the feat with the runner-up finish in 2015.
The 2016 NASCAR season kicks off in just over a week with the all-star Sprint Unlimited on Saturday, Feb. 13. Daytona 500 qualifying duel races are set for Thursday, Feb. 18, with the famed Daytona 500 slated for Sunday, Feb. 21 at 1 p.m. live on FOX.
