Bubba Wallace Finishes 11th In Iowa
NEWTON, Iowa (Aug. 2, 2015) – Bubba Wallace battled a loose Ford EcoBoost Mustang in Saturday night’s NASCAR XFINITY Series race at Iowa Speedway, bringing home an 11th-place finish.
Wallace rolled off eighth for the scheduled 250-Lap race, after advancing to the final round of qualifying on Saturday afternoon.
During the opening run of the race, Wallace radioed to the team that he needed more grip. The No. 6 Ford Mustang held strong in the top-10, until the first caution flag of the day waved on Lap 75.
Crew Chief Chad Norris brought Wallace down pit road for four tires and fuel along with air pressure and track bar adjustments.
On the next green flag run, Wallace was able to break into the top-five, informing his team that his Mustang had swung to the loose side after the adjustments on pit road.
Another caution on Lap 143 brought Norris and team an opportunity to adjust on the No. 6. As Wallace was making his way down pit road, he made contact with the No. 54. The damage sustained forced Wallace down pit road multiple times under the caution for repairs and tires.
The rookie of the year contender lined up 14th on the restart and was quiet on the ensuing run as he worked to gain back the lost ground. When the caution came out again on Lap 203, Wallace came down pit road for four tires and fuel for his loose Mustang.
Tough racing and several restarts to close out the race left Wallace with an 11th-place finish. With the result, Wallace remains sixth in the NASCAR XFINITY Series point standings, as the series travels to Watkins Glen International.
