CONCORD, N.C. (August 23, 2016) – American Diabetes Association® diabetes awareness advocate Mark Sandler will ‘ride’ along with Roush Fenway Racing driver Ryan Reed during Saturday’s NASCAR XFINITY Series race at Road America.  The Whitefish Bay, Wis. resident will have his name featured on a decal above the passenger-side window on the No. 16 Lilly Diabetes/American Diabetes Association Ford Mustang.

Like Reed, Sandler lives with diabetes and has learned the importance of managing his health through diet and exercise. He has been involved with the American Diabetes Association Tour de Cure® cycling event for 13 years and has raised almost $25,000 for the Association. For the past six years, Sandler has ridden as a Champion to Stop Diabetes®, a participant who has made a commitment to raise at least a $1,000 to support the Association’s mission. In 2016, Mark raised a total of $5,102 and served as the route leader on the Tour de Cure committee.

This weekend at Road America, Sandler will have the opportunity to meet Ryan Reed and watch the race from atop the No. 16 Lilly Diabetes/American Diabetes Association pit box.

“I’m honored to have Mark’s name displayed on our No. 16 Lilly Diabetes/American Diabetes Association Ford Mustang this weekend and can’t wait to meet him at Road America,” said Reed. “He’s not only raising money for diabetes awareness, but also managing his own health by taking part in this great event and keeping fit. He’s very deserving of the opportunity and a great representative of the Drive To Stop Diabetes.”

Ryan Reed and the ‘Riding with Ryan’ program roll into Road America for the first time this season. Last year, Reed finished 19th after starting 24th.

The NASCAR XFINITY Series takes the green flag from Road America on Saturday, August 27th at 3 p.m. ET on NBCSN and MRN.
