Diabetes Awareness Advocate Nathan Stock to ‘Ride’ with Ryan Reed in Michigan
CONCORD, N.C. (June 6, 2016) – American Diabetes Association® representative and diabetes advocate Nathan Stock will ‘ride’ along with Roush Fenway Racing driver Ryan Reed during Saturday’s NASCAR XFINITY Series race at Michigan International Speedway (MIS). The Byron Center, Mich. resident will have his name featured on a decal above the passenger-side window on the No. 16 Lilly Diabetes/American Diabetes Association Ford Mustang.
Like Reed, Stock lives with diabetes and knows the importance of staying healthy to manage his diabetes. He was diagnosed at age 13 and has diligently managed his diabetes through insulin therapy, exercise and healthy eating to avoid any complications and trips to the hospital. Also like Reed, he grew up with the dream of being a racecar driver. Today, Stock is a wellness specialist and helps others manage their health.
“My passion for diabetes and the daily care that I take with myself has led me to my current career where I am able to help others live long healthy lives with diabetes,” said Stock.
Stock serves on the Board of Directors for the Greater West Michigan American Diabetes Association and is the president of the Young Leadership Professional Board for the Greater West Michigan American Diabetes Association. This weekend at MIS, Stock will have the opportunity to meet Reed and watch the race from atop the No. 16 Lilly Diabetes/American Diabetes Association pit box.
“It’s so awesome to see how Nathan has turned his diagnosis into something positive and is helping others through his career and his involvement with the American Diabetes Association,” said Reed. “I can’t wait to meet him this weekend to thank him for all he’s doing in the diabetes community and honor him as a representative of our Drive to Stop Diabetes program.”
Ryan Reed and the ‘Riding with Ryan’ program roll into MIS for the first time this season. In this race last year, Reed finished 19th after starting in the same position.
The NASCAR XFINITY Series takes the green flag from MIS on Saturday, June 11th at 1:30 p.m. ET on FS1 and MRN.
