Flat Tire Late Leaves Buescher 13th In Iowa
NEWTON, Iowa (Aug. 2, 2015) – Roush Fenway Racing’s Chris Buescher had a strong Salted Nut Roll Ford Mustang in Saturday night’s NASCAR XFINITY Series race at Iowa Speedway. The defending winner raced towards the front of the pack for the majority of the night, before suffering a flat tire late in the race, finishing 13th.
After advancing to the third of three qualifying rounds on Saturday afternoon at Iowa Speedway, Buescher ultimately landed his No. 60 Salted Nut Roll Ford Mustang a sixth-place starting spot.
Although Buescher reported a loose Mustang early on, he was able to work his way forward, advancing to fourth by Lap 20. By Lap 40, the sophomore in the NASCAR XFINITY Series had worked his way up to third.
As the team headed green flag pit stops, the first caution flag of the day flew on Lap 75, for debris. Crew chief Scott Graves called the points-leader down pit road for four tires, fuel and a track bar adjustment to help the loose on exit condition.
Buescher lined up fifth, and dropped back to sixth after the restart. The Prosper, Texas native patiently worked to gain back the positions, advancing to third by Lap 110.
As the next long green flag run progressed, Buescher radioed to the team that his Pearson’s Candy Mustang was too tight in the center.
When the caution waved on Lap 143, Buescher made his way down pit road for the second stop of the day on Lap 146 from second-place. The team changed four tires, added fuel and made an air pressure adjustment, sending Buescher back out in third.
Forty laps into the next run, Buescher informed the team that his Mustang was too loose and that he wanted to go back on the previous adjustments.
Graves received the opportunity to call his driver down pit road shortly thereafter, as the caution was displayed on Lap 203. The No. 60 team changed four tires and added fuel, while also making air pressure and track bar adjustments. Buescher lined up fifth for the restart.
Some tough racing after a late race restart forced Buescher down pit road to replace a flat tire. Buescher fought to regain the lost track position in the closing laps, ultimately crossing the line in 13th.
With the result, Buescher holds a 20 point leader over Chase Elliott in the NASCAR XFINITY Series point standings, as the series travels to Watkins Glen International.
