NASCAR Hall of Fame Nominee Jack Roush has had big success in Texas
CONCORD, N.C. (April 4, 2018) – Roush Fenway team co-owner Jack Roush is no stranger to success at Texas Motor Speedway (TMS.) Roush and his team rode into town and took the track by storm, sweeping the inaugural NASCAR weekend in 1997 with a pair of wins by racing legends Mark Martin and Jeff Burton.
The success would stand the test of time, to date Roush has acquired 18 wins, 76 top-five finishes, 133 top-10’s and nine poles in all three of NASCAR’s premier series in Texas. The 2019 NASCAR Hall of Fame nominee boasts the most win among car owners at Texas. Of Roush’s current driver lineup both Ricky Stenhouse Jr. and Trevor Bayne have hoisted a trophy in NASCAR victory lane at the 1.5-mile track.
“Texas has been one of our most successful track on the circuit,” said Roush, who’s Fords have led over 3,500 laps at Texas. “It’s a track that has really suited the driving style of our drivers over the years. We were fortunate to see success early at Texas and we have seen it often. It’s really a testament to our drivers and the people that we have had working on the cars over the years. It’s a great track, but it’s fast and can be really challenging and they were up to the challenge.”
In 1997, the organization dominated the weekend, winning both the Cup event with Burton and Saturday’s NXS race with NASCAR Hall of Famer Mark Martin. Burton and Martin led over 100 laps and left with two trophies. The success was a precursor of things to come, with Roush Fenway winning the first two Sprint Cup races at TMS and three of the first four NXS series events.
Roush would pull another Lone Star State sweep in 2012 with Greg Biffle and Stenhouse doing the honors.
In 2013, Texas Motor Speedway acknowledged Roush’s many accomplishments at the track by making him the 15th inductee into the speedway’s distinguished Hall of Fame. Roush received a standing ovation from the crowd of 200 plus after giving a rousing historical perspective of his team’s trials, tribulations and success. The legendary owner was introduced by Martin, the first driver he hired when launching into NASCAR in 1988, and expressed his gratitude to all of those who have contributed to the team’s successes over the past 26 seasons.
“For the contribution of your time, energy, passion and commitment,” Roush said. “I humbly salute you and thank you for the small part you have allowed me to play in your many successes.”
The Roush Fenway teammates hope to find their 19th win at TMS this weekend. Saturday’s NXS race is set for 3 p.m. EST on FOX. Tune in to Sunday’s Cup race at 2 p.m. EST on FOX Sports 1.
