Roush Returns to Most Successful Track Looking to Return to Victory Lane
CONCORD, N.C. (June 7, 2019) – Jack Roush and his Roush Fenway Racing team are no strangers to success at Michigan. As the NASCAR Cup Series treks north to conquer the Irish Hills of Michigan International Speedway. The NASCAR Hall of Famer is anxious for his first win of the year in his home state and Ford’s backyard.
“I’m pressured to get the win for the sponsors, the fan, for Ford and everyone,” Roush told SiriusXM’s Claire B. Lang. “We won the thousandth race for Ford Motor Company in NASCAR racing a few years ago there. We have celebrated a lot of success here with Ford, our fans and employees. I’m anxious to keep that ball rolling if I can.”
In 207 Cup series starts at Michigan, Roush Fenway has recorded 13 wins, 56 top-fives and 101 top-10 finishes with 2,452 laps led. To secure that 14th Cup win at the track, Roush says it’s all about finding the right balance in the cars this weekend.
“It takes the right amount of downforce and drag and we’ve been hit and miss on it and I think most teams have not been able to consistently hit it,” Roush explained. “But if you go for not enough downforce and too much straightaway speed, the car will go slow. If you go for too much downforce and not enough straightaway speed the car will go slow. It’s like standing a card on its edge to find that sweet spot.”
Roush Fenway drivers Ryan Newman and Ricky Stenhouse Jr. go into the weekend 18th and 19th in the points standings. Roush not only hopes to bring a win back with the team, but to secure both a spot in the playoffs and help put on an exciting race.
“I think the race is going to be very exciting for the fans at Michigan,” Roush explained. “I hope the weather cooperates, but I think it’s going to be a great race. We’re looking forward to being back on track.”
