Stenhouse Jr. Earns Top-10 Finish at Talladega
TALLADEGA, Ala. (October 25, 2015) – After steadily running in the top-20 for a majority of Sunday’s NASCAR Sprint Cup Series (NSCS) race at Talladega Superspeedway, Ricky Stenhouse Jr. lined up in the ninth position for the final green-white-checkered finish. As the field took the green flag, a multi-car accident occurred behind the Zest Ford freezing the field earning Stenhouse a ninth-place finish; his seventh straight top-20 and fifth straight top-15 finish.
“I wasn’t sure what was going to happen on that last restart,” Stenhouse said. “This was a good race for us. The past couple of superspeedway races we have gotten wrecked on the last lap and haven’t gotten the finishes we have deserved. Our No. 17 team keeps getting stronger so I’m looking forward to the final four races of the season.”
After going back to old single car qualifying runs, the Olive Branch, Miss. native lined up in the 17th position for the 188-lap race. Stenhouse Jr. jockeyed for position early on but felt the field was getting dicey so he dropped to the rear of the pack.
The two-time XFINITY champion steadily ran in the top-20 and maneuvered his Zest Ford up to 13th when the yellow flag was displayed on lap 183 setting up a green-white-checkered finish. On the first attempt of the green-white-checkered, one of the cars in the top-five spun his tires causing a chain reaction ultimately bringing out the caution by the time the cars reached turn one.
When the final green flag waved, Stenhouse was lined up in the ninth position when a multi-car accident occurred behind him freezing the field leaving Stenhouse to settle with a ninth-place finish at the 2.66-mile track.
